In the early to mid eighth century, amidst much turmoil in the church, a priest was struggling with doubts about the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, a central teaching of the Faith. One morning, while celebrating Mass for the town's people of Lanciano, at the climax of the consecration, the host became visible flesh and wine visible blood. This miracle has withstood the test of time over thirteen centuries and underwent an intense modern scientific scrutiny in the 1970's and 80's, the results of which authenticated the miraculous nature of the flesh and blood species.
